Compact, Uniquely Designed Quantum LMV Motors Raise Efficiency, Lower Lifecycle Costs
FORT WAYNE, IN — New Quantum LMV motors from GE Motors, a GE Consumer & Industrial business, feature a unique patent–pending duct–system design that allows for a smaller footprint with increased output per frame size and greater energy efficiency than a TEAAC Custom 8000 motor from GE Motors. Business benefits of new Quantum LMV motors include reduced life–cycle costs and increased payback. The new, compact motors are ideally suited for retrofits or operations with space constraints.
GE's Quantum LMV frame was designed with seven "D–Ducts." This unique shape dramatically increases airflow for cooler operation and longer motor life at a lower, more versatile shaft height. A new fan design also provides a cooler platform for running at higher power ratings in a smaller frame. These 450/7000 TEFC motors are custom–designed per customer specs and commonly used in the petrochemical, pulp and paper, power generation, water and wastewater, and mining industries for such applications as pumps, blowers, compressors and conveyors.
Additional longer–life features include reduced vibration and coil brace construction. Reduced vibration is achieved by having a large separation between the frame natural frequency and line frequencies, exceeding API standards. A stiff frame and increased foot strength also lead to lower vibration and increased horsepower capability. Rigid feet use Class 30 cast iron, which offers solid mounting and a high degree of safety factor during the starting cycle of the machine. A unique coil brace construction enhances the rigidity of the end turns, leading to a longer coil life.
Vibration and total electrical/mechanical run–out levels with the new Quantum LMV motors meet stringent API standards, including the very demanding API 541 4th edition requirements.
"That translates to increased motor uptime and an improved overall reliability," says Mark Cooksey, vertical market manager, GE Motors. "These motors are ideal for demanding operations. They deliver excellent payback and reliability in a more compact footprint."
