New 81mm Permanent Split Capacitor Motors Outperform Shaded–Pole Motors
FORT WAYNE, IN — In the continuing drive to increase energy efficiency, GE Motors, a GE Consumer & Industrial business, introduces several new 81mm Permanent Split Capacitor (PSC) motors. These latest energy–efficient motors from GE provide exceptional reliability with a drop–in design and an operating cost payback that can be less than one year in some cases—factors that help the new GE motors compare favorably with standard shaded–pole motors.
The new single–speed PSC motors feature a threaded shaft and cast–iron construction for superior life. They are specifically designed for refrigeration, food/beverage coolers, display cases, vending machines, condensing units and other similar applications. Available in 5–, 9– and 16–watt models at either 115 volts or 230 volts, the motors' drop–in design provides ease of use in new and retrofit applications.
Unique design features in the bearing/lubrication and insulation systems of the motors are designed to provide years of dependable operation. The bearing/lubrication system is rated to provide 250,000 cycles and more than 15 years of operation. The motors are designed to operate in low– (freezer), medium– and high–temperature applications. The Class B insulation system is rated to 125 C total versus Class A @ 105 C total (both winding and leads), whereas most motors offer Class B winding and Class A leads.
The estimated operating–cost payback of less than one year through energy savings is based on performance estimates and tests versus shaded–pole motors. This calculation assumes a full load at 1550 RPM, electricity cost of 8 cents per kilowatt hour (kWh) and system savings equal to 1.75 X motor savings due to reduced heat load on the compressor.
"Our new 81mm PSC motors offer GE reliability and extremely long life. Customers can simply install and forget about them," says Ron Blackburn, product manager, GE Motors.
