Consumers Can Compare Light Bulbs, Energy Savings at Select Wal-Mart StoresCleveland, Ohio, October 21, 2004- Through November 14, if consumers visit one of 227 Wal-Mart stores in 14 states across the nation, they can check out, first hand, how GE ENERGY STAR® qualified compact fluorescent light bulbs can help them save them money on their energy bills. An in-store display will include a comparator meter that compares, with the flip of a switch, the energy usage of a 60-watt standard incandescent light bulb to a 15-watt compact fluorescent bulb. Consumers can flip the switch to the standard bulb and watch how fast the meter turns or flip the switch to the GE ENERGY STAR CFL bulb and watch the meter turn slowly. Why switch from standard bulbs to GE compact fluorescent light bulbs? Consumers can save up to $36.* These bulbs use up to 75% less energy than regular incandescent bulbs. Select Wal-Mart stores in the following states are participating in the event: California, Connecticut, Idaho, Massachusetts, Maine, Montana, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Texas, Vermont, Washington and Wisconsin. This collaboration between GE, Wal-Mart and the public utility companies in the areas mentioned above will reach approximately 500,000 to 1 million Wal-Mart customers across the nation. * Electricity cost savings based on rated life of 8,000 hours compared to eight 50-watt Soft White incandescent bulbs rated 1,000 hours. Energy savings based on 10 cents per kilowatt hour.
