GE SmartWater™ Filtration Systems Designed for Easier Use

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky — Before and after makeovers are hot topics almost everywhere you look, from television shows to magazine articles, and now — even under the kitchen sink!

GE SmartWater™ drinking water filtration systems take up a fraction of the space under the sink and making it easier for consumers to change the filters. Instead of the labor- intensive process that required several cumbersome steps, replacing a filter is now as easy as twisting and locking, a new process that takes just seconds.

No longer must consumers shut off the water supply to the system, pull out all contents from under the sink, and worry about getting water all over the kitchen when removing the old filter. GE's exclusive Twist and Lock system allows the consumer to snap the filter into place with just a quarter turn, no tools required. In addition, under-the-sink models are now about half the size — making them some of the smallest on the market — and are easily installed vertically or horizontally.

These systems also feature a monitored faucet to take the guesswork out of filter replacement. When the time comes to replace the filter, a small blue light at the base of the faucet will flash, reminding consumers that new filters are needed.

In addition to offering greater ease-of-use and new appearance, all GE SmartWater products offer flexibility in model choices. For example, the single-stage system is good for small families who use low volumes of water. This system uses one high-volume carbon filter to reduce drinking water impurities. The dual-stage system, GE's most popular, uses two high-volume carbon filters to improve water quality. Both systems help reduce undesirable elements such as lead, mercury, cysts, asbestos, chlorine, sediment and rust.

GE's top-of-the-line reverse osmosis system uses two high-volume carbon filters and a micro membrane to produce high quality clean, fresh, better tasting water. In fact, this is the same basic process used by premium bottled water companies . The system's natural pressure is utilized to move the water through the filtration system, allowing the reverse osmosis membrane to filter particles almost 100,000 times smaller than the diameter of a human hair!

The reverse osmosis system includes a high-arc, designer-style faucet in a variety of colors including new brushed nickel and new oil-rubbed bronze finishes available fall 2006. Also available are chrome, white, black and bisque.

The faucet-mount filter mounts easily on most faucets and provides clean, healthy water straight from the tap. GE makes it a lot easier to get better-tasting ice and water from the refrigerator, too. SmartWater refrigerator/icemaker filters have a Twist and Lock system. These easy-to-install inline filters are designed for refrigerators without built-in filtration and connect directly to the water lines located behind the refrigerator.

Consumers should also consider a GE SmartWater household sediment filtration system. This filter attaches to the main water inlet and reduces sand, silt and sediment from the incoming water line, which helps reduce sediment build-up in water-use appliances such as water heaters, dishwashers and washers, as well as plumbing fixtures. The household filter features a remote filter replacement reminder — an industry first. The reminder light, which flashes when a filter change is needed, is magnetic and can be attached to a more visible location such as a refrigerator or message board.

Estimated retail cost of the system replacement filters will vary.
